I have always been drawn to fibers, threads, yarns, and fabric. Starting with making pot holders when I was eight and progressing on to garment making, knitting and crocheting, embroidery, counted cross stitch, and quilting. It was not until I put my first piece of white fabric into the dye pot that I realized my passion is for color. Although I had been surrounding myself with color all my life through various fiber arts, I now realize my connection is to color for its own sake. I relate so much to artist Anne Truitt’s words “I felt myself to be color.” My work is a passionate investigation into the use of color to allow one to experience color. I believe we see color with our eyes, but we experience color though our soul. I am inspired by artist Mark Rothko and other color field artists whose work allows one to respond emotionally and/or spiritually to color alone, without any distraction from design or form. Working with encaustic medium, pan pastels, oils, fabrics and dyes, I explore color, connecting to color on a deeper, more spiritual level.
